This time, I share an excerpt from the text on Gendai Reiki Ho, a Japanese method of Reiki often referred to by Western Reiki masters as ‘updated Usui Reiki Ryoho.’ This expression, ‘updated Usui Reiki Ryoho,’ perfectly describes the contemporary Japanese school of Reiki founded by Hiroshi Doi.
As a member of the association initiated by Usui sensei one hundred and one years ago and as an investigator, Doi sensei is a Reiki master with a profound knowledge of Japanese Traditional Reiki. However, he was introduced to Western-style Reiki before joining the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai and also saw the positive in Reiki developed outside of Japan. He realized that everything evolves and how we practice Reiki must adapt to today’s society and its rhythm. He created his school of Usui Reiki, fusing the knowledge of Western and Japanese Reiki.
This is how this method called Gendai Reiki Ho, the Contemporary Reiki Method, was born. As a Reiki method, it conveys cleanly and honestly the teachings of Usui sensei and numerous techniques of Traditional Reiki of Usui sensei, and at the same time, it provides many hints for achieving the purpose of life, Anshin Ritsumei, through its updated practices.

«Completing the Reiki Reception System

Usui Sensei maintained that reiki is ki and light and permeates the Universe and fills our surroundings in the form of the vibration that guides everything toward harmony. Nonetheless, even though the space around us is filled with reiki, we will only be able to receive it if our reception system is correctly adjusted.

Each giho, or technique, of Gendai Reiki, is based on Reiki healing and is a technique for self-purification and growth that we can easily practice in our everyday lives. We gradually become fine-tuned to reiki’s reception and transmission systems by consciously practicing them. Our final goal is to continuously resonate with reiki without being aware of it. When every part of our daily life automatically resonates with reiki, we can be considered to have attained Anshin Ritsumei as described by Usui sensei.» … Hiroshi Doi
